UTTAR PRADESH TO SET UP EXHIBITION INFRASTRUCTURE AT LUCKNOW – SAYS UP MINISTER
New Delhi – April 26, 2013 – Uttar Pradesh Minister of SSI & EP, Mr. Bhagwat Saran Gangwar announced that the Government of UP will actively consider setting up of an exhibition complex at Lucknow during his address given at the two days International Summit being organized by Indian Exhibition Industries Association (IEIA) at Hotel Kempinski Ambience, here today.Mr. Gangwar said that the UP Government had already taken the lead by allotting land for exhibition complex called India Expo Center and Mart at Greater Noida. This centre is an international class complex holding large exhibitions like Auto Component Expo and Printpak India besides one of the largest international conference of Asian Development Bank where Ministers from 67 countries will take part, besides inauguration by Prime Minister of India.UP Government had earlier allocated land for comparatively small expo centre in Noida which has also helped for holding small fairs, exhibitions, seminars and meetings. UP has great potential for further development not only for manufacturing but for trading and exports also.Mr. Gangwar stated that another important exhibition complex is necessary at Lucknow to exploit the potential of the entire State. The Government of UP is prepared to consider joint participation with private players and expert trade fair organizations in this matter. He extended open invitation to all for exploring possibilities for setting up facilities on Public Private Partnership model. He also stated that an Integrated Convention Centre has already been approved in Greater Noida for providing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions (MICE) facilities. The seminar is being organized by Indian Exhibition Industries Association (IEIA) which represents the total segments connected with the trade fair business in India. Growth of trade fairs in India has been around 15% during the last decade. When compared with other countries in the Asian region, this growth is far behind. China, Thailand, Singapore and South Korea etc. have evolved dedicated policies for growth of trade fairs after having realized that trade fairs leave a multiplayer effect in growth of economy. Mr. Rakesh Kumar, President of the IEIA who is also the Executive Director of Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts and Director of the India Expo Center & Mart set out a vision statement on behalf of the IEIA for the growth of the trade fair business. Broad contents of the vision statement are (i) creation of infrastructure facilities at State level on Public Private Partnership model (ii) recognition of exhibition sector as industry by the Government (iii) regulation on exhibition coordination (iv) role of ITPO to be supportive (v) emphasis on vertical, specialized and focused shows (vi) total coordination and inclusive growth of five segments of exhibitions viz. fair organizers, venue owners, logistic providers, service providers and media managers (vii) New subjects and new industry to be introduced (viii) closer interaction with industry associations (ix) Professionalism in management of exhibitions.

Union Minister of State For Commerce & Industry to Inaugurate the Brain Storming Seminar of Exhibition Industry
Dr. Smt. D. Purandeswari, Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, will be inaugurating the 3rd edition of the open seminar of Indian Exhibition Industries Association (IEIA) to brain storm on various aspects of exhibition management on the 25th April, 2013 at New Delhi. The open seminar will be addressed by over 35 International and Indian experts from the trade fair business. The seminar will also be addressed by Shri Sudhir Sharma, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Planning with additional charge of Housing, Town and Country Planning, Government of Himachal Pradesh and Shri Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar, Hon’ble Minister of State for SSI & EP, Government of UP. More than 350 delegates from India and other countries will take part in the seminar.
The objective of the seminar is to critically analyse various actions of the past and prepare a road map for future as also to draw a perspective for the year 2020. In pursuance of this objective, discussions will concentrate on challenges faced by the industry so far like lack of infrastructure with modern facilities at different locations particularly at the regional, lack of recognition by the Government of India of trade fair business as an industry, intense competition, multiplicity of approvals and high incidence of taxation by Government on organizers. The experience of trade fair organizers in developed economies of Europe and developing economies of China and Asia will also be discussed for learning lesson for India. Detailed presentation will be made by experts from various countries. Seminar will aim to involve industry association more closely with the trade fair activities and also other important segments like hotels, restaurants, tour operators, taxi owners, shopkeepers, municipal bodies, service providers, media managers etc. so that all inclusive approach can be adopted for the growth of the industry.
Indian Exhibition Industries Association is a representative body of trade fair organizers, service providers, logistic companies and media managers etc. The objective of the association is to provide a platform for considering ways and means for sound and scientific development of various segments involved in the business. More than 700 trade fairs taking place in India annually. Out of these trade fairs 150-170 involve international participation. Growth of trade fairs business in India has been around 15% during the last decade. There is tremendous potential for further growth. The Open Seminar aims to prepare a road map for future.
While Shri Rakesh Kumar, who is president of IEIA will make a vision statement of the trade fairs and exhibition industry, there will be CEOs discussions on “Identifying key drivers of Indian exhibition industry and perspective for 2020”.
